Throughout our term 2 Science and Technology program, Year 6 were learning all about designing learning spaces. Mrs Ryan was the brilliant teacher behind all this wonderful learning. During our science and technology time the Year 6 students were asked to focus on 21st century learning. The students were then able to design our 21st century desk using the app, Google Sketchup. We also had the opportunity to design an ideal 21st century learning area where we could feel innovative and become successful 21st Century Learners. Everyone got into groups of either 2 or 3, and no one was to work independently on this task. We all used different materials to create a model of our ideal 21st century classrooms.
As everyone knows, last year we sadly had to say goodbye to our principal, Mr Halloran who was retiring. For terms 1 and 2 this year, Mrs Vallorani was relieving this position. We now welcome Mrs Droscher who is now the new principal of CWPS! We are so excited to get to know you better and start learning with you. Welcome Mrs Droscher! Our Interview With Mrs DroscherWhat's it like being our principal?
Fantastic question and fantastic answer. What is your daily schedule like? Hectic. What was your previous job? Deputy principal at Quakers Hill. How far is it from our school? Around half n hour. What do you think of our club program? Great, lots of people enjoyed it and good leadership skills were shown. Education Week has sadly ended, with beatuiful costumes on Monday, excellent efforts at the sport carnival on Tuesday and, the outstanding grade performances on Thursday. On Friday of Education Week, 6 students from Year 6 attended Cabramatta High School's Education Week performances. Cutural Performances on MondayOn Monday of Education Week, everyone dressed up in their culture's costumes or their cutural colours. At 9:30 we went down to the hall to see the wonderful cultural performances, we opened with the choir singing the Fight Song by Rachel Platten then, we started our cultural performances. Everyone watched in amazement as our peers danced gracefully on the stage. Sports Carnival on TuesdayAt 10:00am there were open classrooms in Year 6. We started our Year 6 challenge where we needed to build a scaffold to hold up a cup of water and the scaffold needed to be more than 50cm to count. Everyone had fun and definitely learnt new things! Congratulations to Jade's group who won the challenge with a measurement of 72cm! Brilliant effort! Afterwards, we headed to the back paddock to start our sport carnivals! What a surprise from the house captains and the Kindy pirates who showed great confidence singing the two chants and the ending surprise for Mrs Vallorani. The first chant lead by Leo was: "I don't know what I've been told, But Pirate Droscher has got our gold, And now we want to get it back, And we're ready to attack!" The second chant was lead by Amanda: "Everywhere we go-oh, People want to know-oh, Who we are, So we tell them, We are the Pirates, Cabra-West Pirates, And if they can't hear us, We scream a little louder, LOUDER LOUDER!" Grade Performances on ThursdayThen came the big day! It was the grade performances! On that day there was a performance from the Chinese group singing and dancing to a song which translates into English as 'Sweet Sweet' then there were the grade performances. Although Year 6 went last, we put on a phenomenal performance with every single bit of energy we had, after all, the saying is "Save the best for last!" All our hard work has paid off and now we can just watch our performance that was recorded and think of all the efforts we had to put in and consider our last performance before going to High School next year. High School Visit on FridayOn Friday 6 students from Year 6 attended Cabramatta High School's Education Week performances and Thang was really lucky and achieved an award for his persistence at school. He received painting equipment such as paint brushes, a canvas and many more useful equipment for the future. 2 students from each class were selected to go and they were:
-Jessica and Thang from 6C -Emily and Delena from 6O -Calvin and Duc Ahn from 6C/R Let's Get Creative!
Creative Arts has to be one of year 6's favourite subjects! It's one of the many ways our wonderful students enjoy all five keys of success: Organisation, Getting Along, Confidence, Persistence and Resilience. As successful 21st Century Learnerrs, this amazingly talented grade has put art in video❗️🎥 Videos to come shortly! |
